5th grade science fair project ideas can be fun ideas to develop our fifth graders inquisitive mind and curios instinct. They like finding out new things and they enjoy investigating something through a fun activities. It doesn’t have to be so serious but it must be educational. These several ideas are worth to try.
Mint Theory
It is said that mint has the ability to cool things down. Let your fifth graders find the fact. You can compare two glasses of hot water. Put 5 mints inside one glass and ask your fifth graders to monitor and take record on the temperature. This allows you to compare the water temperature, one naturally and the other with mints.
Lava Lamp
You can invite your fifth graders to make their own lava lamp using a clear bottle, vegetable oil, water, food coloring and two tablets of Alka Seltzer for a liter of water. Fill three quarter of the bottle with oil and top with water to the neck of the bottle. Brake the Alka Seltzer to pieces and put it inside. Ask your fifth graders to note the reaction. Shake it and see the reaction again. Don’t forget to add aroung 10 drops of food coloring to make it nicer.
Stop Exploding Soda Can
This is really fun. You are going to ask them to try in three different ways. Provide three soda cans for each kid. Then, ask them to shake it in a minute then open it. On the second can, ask them to tap on the top of the can with their finger before they open it. On the third can, ask them to slap the side of the can before the open it. Provide them with note and let them record the difference among the three experiments. This can be a little messy, you may want to take them outside to try this.
Paper Airplane: Longer vs. Wider
The main point of this project is to understand the right shape and design for an airplane. Kids like to make paper airplane and this will be really fun. Ask them to make longer and wider airplanes. Then, you will invite them to fly them on normal direction, 90 degrees direction, and other possible direction. Let them take notes on the flow and find out the fact if longer airplane can fly farther.
Those ideas have been tried before and it ended in fun and educational result. Your fifth graders will like the activity and automatically engage in it.
